On the 21st of September, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, the President of the newly floated YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) was detained by the Telangana Police.

According to sources, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila was conducting a dharna at a village near Boduppal, without permission. Since there was no permission to conduct the dharna, the Police detained the YSRTP President. She was taken to the Medipally Police Station. A video of a lady police personnel forcibly taking Y.S. Sharmila into a police vehicle, went viral on social media platforms like Twitter.

Ms. Y.S. Sharmila raised an objection and criticised the Telangana Police and Government for her detention. She asked why she was taken into custody, when she was holding a peaceful protest, without creating any ruckus.

Soon the YSRTP followers and workers raised slogans and protested outside the police station leading to tension in the area. It is to be noted, every Tuesday, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila holds a Nirudyoga Nirahara Deeksha (fast in protest of unemployment) in different villages of Telangana, highlighting the matter of unemployment in Telangana. As a practice, Ms. Sharmila conducts a one day fast at villages of Telangana, dedicating the fast to the youths who committed suicide after being disappointed due to unemployment in the State.

Since the launch of the YSRTP in Telangana, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila is focusing on the unemployment issue in Telangana. Ms. Sharmila demanded job appointments and 1.94 lakh job notices for vacancies in government departments.
