The controversial Warangal Medical Student suicide made headlines again after the Warangal Police dismissed ‘Love Jihad’ angle, as said by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

On the 25th of February, Saturday, the Warangal Police said, the Warangal Suicide case is the result of targeted harassment by a senior.  On the 23rd of February, a first year medical student D. Preethi, studying at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) Warangal, committed suicide, by injecting herself succinylcholine, which is used to relax muscles and nerves.  However, if a healthy person takes the injection, it could cause severe health issues.  She took the extreme step after being allegedly harassed by a senior S.A. Saif.   The police investigated the matter and said, the ragging started with a remark on a WhatsApp group, and continued for a couple of days, following which Preethi took the extreme step.

Warangal Police Commissioner A.V. Ranganath told reporters that the accused has been booked for the girl’s attempted suicide.  Police also invoked provisions of the Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Anti-Ragging Act against Saif.

Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said, “It is clear that there was targeted harassment of this girl by Saif.  He was making remarks to insult her in a WhatsApp group.

Meanwhile, the BJP President of the Telangana Unit Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar claimed the matter to be a clear case of love jihad and demanded a special judge investigation into the matter.
