The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Mr. Nitin Gadkhari issued an order for a probe into the Secunderabad electric bike showroom explosion incident.

On the 14th of September, Wednesday, Mr. Nitin Gadkari said, “Two experts are to visit the electric-bike showroom in Secunderabad after the police submit preliminary findings.” 

The cases of electric vehicle battery explosion in India is raising concern, especially when the Central Government is trying to bring electric vehicles in India.

Getting into the details about the incident in the Secunderabad bike showroom, the electric bike showroom exploded, which resulted in a massive fire at Ruby Pride Luxury Hotel.  On the night of the 12th of September, an explosion in an electric bike charging unit showroom located on the ground floor of the building occurred.  The fire spread to other floors causing the death of many people, staying on the first and second floors.  According to sources, at the time of the major accidents, there were 25 guests at the Ruby Pride Luxury Hotel. In addition, eight people, including a woman died, whereas many were injured. 

Meanwhile, after the incident, the road transport ministry introduced additional safety provisions in the battery safety standards, which will come into effect from the 1st of October.  This new safety would include other safety requirements related to battery cells, onboard chargers, the design of battery packs, and thermal propagation due to internal cell short circuits leading to a fire. 

Meanwhile, a probe into the Secunderabad e showroom explosion incident is underway.
