G. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, on the 31st of August, conducted a video conference meeting with the Hyderabad District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA.)

The meeting was organised to discuss the ongoing situation due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Since the past two weeks, Telangana is witnessing a massive hike of approximately 1500 new single day cases. In the past 24 hours, Telangana reported 2,734 new cases with 9 deaths.

During the meeting, Mr. Reddy reviewed centre sponsored welfare schemes implemented in Telangana to curb the spread of the virus and benefit citizens.

G. Kishan Reddy asked the Telangana health officials to set up generic medical shops at all the government hospitals in the wake of the pandemic illness.

Mr. Reddy also asked the Health department officials to increase the Novel Coronavirus tests. Currently, the State is able to conduct tests between 30,000 to 50,000 every day.

In addition, Kishan Reddy asked the Telangana Government to ban private hospitals overcharging, from testing and treating COVID-19 patients.

In another such suggestion, the Union Minister asked for a merger of Basti Dawakhanas and wellness centres in the State.

The suggestion was based on the idea of extending better health treatment to needy people in the State.

Addressing the Hyderabad District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting through video conference from Delhi on Monday, he took stock of the development works being taken in Hyderabad and the implementation of Centre sponsored schemes He asked officials to supply adequate sanitary pads to girl students and construct sufficient toilets in all government schools.

He said the construction of double bedroom houses should be intensified and houses should be handed over to beneficiaries as quickly as possible.

The meeting was attended by K. Keshava Rao, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Rajya Sabha MP of All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and others.
