In view of the upcoming festival of Medaram Jatara, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) decided to run 3,845 special buses.

According to the sources, the additional buses would be running from the 16th of February till the 19th of February for devotees traveling. Reportedly, in 2020 also, the TSRTC operated the additional buses, expecting 21 lakh devotees, attending the jatara.

Similarly, this year also lakhs of devotees would be attending the festival. Of the all, a majority of devotees would be coming from erstwhile Warangal district, for which a total of 2,250 buses would be running to Warangal region. Besides, two AC buses would run from Hyderabad. In addition to these arrangements, the TSRTC are also going to construct a bus stand in 50 acres for the halt of the buses.

The decision was taken after recently, a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Minister Ms. Satyavati Rathod reviewed the jatara works and directed the officials to ensure hassle-free darshan of the tribal goddess to the devotees.

She also told the TSRTC officials to operate an adequate number of buses to Medaram from various destinations.

Meanwhile, the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government released Rs. 75 crores for the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in Medaram. The four day Sammakka Saralamma jatara is a mega religious congregation of adivasis, scheduled to be held at Medaram village in Telangana. The event marks the fight of Sammakka and Saralamma, a duo of mother and daughter, who fought against the unjust law of the ruler Pratapudra of the Kakatiyas.

According to the history of Medaram Jatara, Prataparudra imposed taxes on the Koya Tribe and when they were unable to pay the taxes, the Kakatiya ruler called for a war. In the war Sammakka’s husband and the Koya tribal Chief died, following which she along with her daughter entered the battle ground. However, after almost winning the war against the ruler, Sammakka and Saralamma died and the battle ground where they died was known as the land to celebrate the festival.

The event has been declared as a State festival by the Telangana Government and celebrated every two years. To celebrate the event, the State Government releases funds and organises the event on a grand note.
