The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders once again started their agitation against the paddy procurement issues.

On the 16th of July, the Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman Mr. Palla Rajeshwar Reddy warned that if the Union Government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not procure paddy within a week, the BJP leaders will not be able to move around in the State of Telangana.

During a press meet, Mr. Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said the TRS would intensify its protests demanding the Centre procure paddy from the farmers of Telangana.

Reminding that Union Tourism Minister and Union Home Minister of Telangana, Mr. G. Kishan Reddy, and the BJP State President Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar had encouraged farmers to cultivate paddy during Yasangi.  However, now the Centre is creating hurdles in procurement.

Due to the non-procurement of paddy by the union government, he said stock amounting to over 90 lakh tonnes of paddy was piling up in the mills.  Mr. Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said, “For nearly two months, operations in about 3,300 rice mills are affected.  As a result, laborers are facing inconvenience due to loss of livelihood.”

The agitation between the TRS and the BJP-led Central Government has been continuing for the past eight months and now has intensified at a national level.  Both the political parties are playing the blame game, asking each other to purchase the paddy from the farmers of Telangana, and also providing the minimum support price (MSP.)
