Under the leadership of Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, the Telugu State has been in the top position in terms of the percentage of development expenditure.

According to sources, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government spent 77.4% of the total expenditure for the development purpose of the State in 2022-2023.  Although the state tops the expenditure percentage in development, it is in the 5th position in terms of money expenses.  In 2022-2023, the Telugu State of Telangana spent Rs.1.98 lakh crore against the total budget of Rs 2.56 lakh crores.  However, it is to be noted, the top four states, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, which spent the highest amount of money are larger than Telangana in terms of population, geographical area and even overall economy.

In addition, the KCR led BRS Government spent a huge amount, despite financial restrictions imposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government.  Notably, even after the Centre cut down funding, the Telangana Government managed to have an impressive growth of 19% in the State owned Tax Revenue (SOTR,) which is the highest in India.
