On the 17th of June, Friday, the Telangana Police arrested Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The arrest was made while Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar was leading a delegation of the party leaders and media to the temple town of Basar  He was visiting Basar town, to express solidarity with the students of the IIIT, who have been protesting against lack of facilities and teaching staff in the institution.  The police obstructed the convoy of Sanjay at Bhiknoor toll plaza and surrounded him, saying there is no permission for him to go to Basar in view of the tense situation.

However, the BJP President Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar and other BJP leaders insisted that they would definitely go to Basar and they squatted on the highway, protesting against the Telangana Police.  Concerned about the situation, the Telangana Police detained Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar and other leaders took them into custody.  The arrested were shifted to the Bhiknoor police station.

Meanwhile, the BJP and Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar condemned the arrest, wondering what was the crime in going to Basar and interacting with the students.  He even criticized the IIIT administration for disconnecting drinking water and power supply to the institution.

Notably, the students of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) continued their protest against the college administration, on the second consecutive day, the 15th of June, Wednesday. 

The RGUKT students also known as IIIT Basara students of Basara town, Nirmal district intensified their protest.  The protest was carried out at the main gate of the IIIT Basara, against the poor quality food, water and lack of basic amenities in the premises.   In total, the students put forward a list of 12 demands, including the appointment of a permanent vice-chancellor at the RGUKT, Telangana.  

In addition, the students also urged Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana and Mr. K. T. Rama Rao, the Minister of Information Technology, came to the campus to take a look into their difficulties.   

Meanwhile, to control the situation and maintain peace and order, the district police have undertaken extensive security arrangements, alerting police to prevent pupils from leaving the building.
