A Dubai returnee tested positive for Omicron, the new variant of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

On the 17th of December, Telangana Health Department confirmed a new suspect of Omicron case, creating panic in the Panjeshah area of Old Hyderabad.

According to sources, the officials shifted the Omicron suspect to the Telangana Institute of Medical Science (TIMS) hospital for isolation. The person’s sample has been sent for genome sequencing to test if the suspect is Omicron positive. Identified as Mohammed Naser, he has a travel history from Dubai and tested COVID-19 positive after his arrival at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

The health officials have kept a watch on the international passengers arriving from foreign countries.

After two African countries nationals found positive for Omicron, Paramount Colony in Tolichowki. After the confirmation of a Tolichowki resident being Omicron positive, the region has been declared a Containment Zone. The authority collected over 600 samples of the residents of Tolichowki Colony, for COVID-19 tests and imposed strict restrictions.

Dr. Anuradha Pilli, the SPHO of Tolichowki said, “We have increased the number of teams to 25 and each team will be handling three apartments and going door to door to counsel residents. We have also set up testing centres at restaurants as most families here do not cook their own food.” She further added, “It is taking nearly 30 minutes one hour to explain things at each household. Many are refusing to open their doors or leaving before we can track them. Some have gone for hospital visits and we hope to trace them in the evening.”

Meanwhile, as of now, Telangana has 7 confirmed cases of Omicron, including a 7 year old boy, who flew to West Bengal in a flight.
