The Telangana Government decided to extend the ongoing lockdown in the State. On the 30th of May, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) conducted a Cabinet meeting and discussed the Wuhan virus situation, vaccination drives and lockdown extension

Considering the improved situation of Telangana in terms of the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus cases (COVID-19) cases, the State Government decided to extend the lockdown. However, this extended lockdown would be with relaxation. The decision to extend the lockdown was taken by K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana during the Cabinet meeting, held at Pragati Bhavan, Hyderabad.

According to sources, the ongoing lockdown is extended for 10 days more, starting from the 31st of May till the 9th of June. This time the TRS Government increased the relaxation time for 3 more hours, which is 6:00 A.M., to 1:00 P.M. While shops and markets are allowed to operate till 1:00 P.M., an extra hour has been provided to people to reach home safely. With this, the lockdown hours would be from 2:00 P.M., till 6:00 A.M.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, took to Twitter and confirmed the lockdown extension. His tweet reads, “Cabinet meeting has resolved to continue Telangana lockdown for another 10 days and daily relaxation has been extended from 6:00 A.M., to 1:00 P.M. Limited revival of economic activity also consented. Guidelines will be issued soon”.

In addition, the Cabinet meeting also decided to vaccinate students going abroad for higher studies on priority basis. In regard to this, KTR posted another tweet, which read, “Cabinet has decided that Students going overseas for higher education will be given vaccination on priority so they can travel safely. Guidelines will be issued soon with details.”

Another major decision taken during the meeting was ro establish 7 medical colleges in Telangana. The tweet regarding this read, “Cabinet has resolved to establish 7 medical colleges at Mahbubabad, Sangareddy, Jagtyal, Nagar Kurnool, Wanaparthy, Kothagudem & Mancherial. Prior to the formation of Telangana, only 4 Govt medical colleges were built. From 2014 -18, KCR Govt has established 5 & now 7 more to come up (sic.)”

With the extended lockdown, the State would be under a complete lockdown till the 9th of June. During the imposed lockdown, people are allowed to function and step outside only between 6:00 A.M., to 1:00 P.M. Activities like grocery shopping, markets, petrol pumps and others would be functional for 7 hours. Except medical emergencies and essential providers nothing is allowed to function during the imposed lockdown.

Meanwhile, in the past few days, Telangana is witnessing less number of single day Wuhan virus cases (below 3,000) and more recoveries. With this, the State’s Novel Coronavirus active cases reduced drastically to 36,917 with 5,33,862 recovered/discharged cases and 3,247 death cases. The total number of positive cases reported in Telangana till date stand at 5,74,026.
