The Telangana High Court (HC) reviewed the petition filed by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) against Osmania University’s rejection to conduct a public meeting.

The TPCC submitted a proposal seeking permission for a meeting by Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) at the OU campus.  However, the administration rejected the proposal and declined to hold the meeting and interaction with the students of the government-run OU.

In regard to this, the TPCC filed a petition in the Telangana High Court.  However, in a setback to the State Indian National Congress unit, the Telangana High Court bench dismissed the petition, refusing to intervene in the matter.

The court also said, the petitioners could submit a fresh application to the university and it is for the Vice Chancellor to take a decision on it.  Furthermore, Mr. Dandeboina Ravinder, the Vice Chancellor of OU, clarified that the university is currently conducting exams, therefore such political activity in the State would lead to the disturbance for students.

The VC further added that they would not allow any political interaction and activities in the educational institution and due to this they have restricted the public meeting of politician Mr. Rahul Gandhi.

Notably, Mr. Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to visit OU campus and hold a meeting and interact with the students on the 7th of May, a day after his Warangal meeting.
