The Telangana Irrigation Department has started pumping Godavari water into the Ranganayaka Sagar project.

On the 21st of June, Wednesday evening, Mr. T. Harish Rao, the Finance Minister of Telangana, released the water into the reservoir.

The Ranganayaka Sagar Lift Project  was having 3 thousand million cubic feet (tmcf)  of storage capacity, which had just 0.7TMCft of water now as most of the water was used for the irrigation needs of the last Yasangi.  In order to increase the water for irrigation purposes and as a precautionary measure, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led State Government has decided to pump in 2TCMft of water by operating one pump every day for six days.

The pumps would be operated only during the daytime for 12 hours every day, from the 22nd of June.  Each pump can pump in 3,400 cusecs of water, increasing the storage water into the reservoir.

The irrigation authorities said they would operate all four pumps during these six days to get them ready for the next irrigation season.
