The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government introduced Government Order (GO)  69, which abolished GO 111.  On the 20th of April, Wednesday, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government issued GO 69, according to which the restrictions under the G.O. 111 are no more in effect.

It is to be noted, on the 12th of April, the State Government revoked GO 111 was issued in 1996 to prevent extreme industrialization and heavy construction activities in 83 villages and pollution of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.  The water of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar at that point of time was catered to the drinking water needs of people of the Greater Hyderabad region but as the Government had overcome the drinking water problem, the GO has become redundant.  Therefore, the KCR Government revoked the orders.

However, the move is not appreciated by many environmental activists in Telangana, who expressed concern that the abolition of GO 111 would be an endanger to the environment.  An activist Ms. Lubna Sarwath said that introduction of the new GO 69 could endanger the reservoir in the city.  She said that the new GO terminates the restrictions that were present in the GO 111.   Ms. Lubna Sarwath said, “The Chief Minister should take the public opinion.  He cannot repeal the GO by simply stating that the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar have become redundant.  It is an unscientific reason.  The committee that was appointed to study the twin reservoirs also has to be dissolved and a new expert committee should be formed in its place.”  She further added, “Repealing of GO 111 will lead to heavy water overflow after rains.  The Government cannot break the natural system of water coming from Ananthagiri hills to two lakes and the same water from Osman Sagar comes to Asif Nagar filter and from Himayat Sagar to Mir Alam Tank water filter.”

Now with the introduction of the new GO 69, the industries and contractures would be in relief, so they could start projects in the restricted areas.  Approximately 1,32,600 acres of land are under GO 111, covering 83 villages and 7 Mandals would now be open for construction and heavy industrial works.
