On the 22nd of April, Friday, the Telangana Governor Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan, directed the Telangana Government to submit a report on the recent suicides in the Telugu State.

The decision to ask for a detailed report on the suicide cases in Telangana in 2022 came after the repeated appeal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Telangana.   As per the BJP leaders, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is responsible for the suicides happening in the State.  Furthermore, the suicide issue became a political matter after the recent death of a BJP activist Sai Ganesh in Khammam.

Sai Ganesh, a 25 year old BJP activist committed suicide after he was unable to bear the torture of the TRS Minister  Mr. Puvvada  Ajay Kumar.   After the death of Ganesh, the BJP leaders staged a protest and demanded action.  In addition, another incident of suicide due to the harassment of the TRS leader was reported in the Kamareddy district of the State/

A mother son duo, Padma and Santosh, residents of the Ramayampet region allegedly committed suicide by setting themselves on fire at a lodge in Kamareddy.  The reason behind the drastic step was revealed through a written letter, an audiotape and a videotape released by one of the victims, Santosh.  As per the revealed suicide notes, the mother-son duo started a business with a loan and were being harassed by Jithender Goud, a leader of the Telangana  Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)  Despite several police complaints and continuous torture, they had no choice left but to end their lives.

Taking note of the two suicide incidents, the BJP  leaders in Telangana sent a detailed report in this regard to the Governor of Telangana.  Taking an action upon the BJP’s request, Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan asked Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao to submit a detailed report.  

Furthermore, the Telangana Governor also asked the Vice Chancellor of the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to submit a detailed report on the medical PG seat blocking scam.  Notably, private medical colleges under the Kaloji Narayana Rao University are allegedly blocking seats for PG students and giving admissions to non eligible people on bribes worth crores of rupees.
