Concerned by the increasing number of the Novel Coronavirus infection cases, the Telangana Government decided to open two new labs for testing for the infection.

The decision of opening two new labs was announced after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) got permission from the Central Government, regarding the same.

Etela Rajender, the Health Minister of Telangana, confirmed the news on the 17th of April.  Mr. Rajender said the two new laboratories for COVID-19 tests would be set up by the 18th of April.

The addition in laboratories would help the State Medical department  to conduct 5,000 COVID-19 tests in a day.

As of now, only 7 hospitals are capable of conducting the COVID-19 tests and the State run Gandhi Hospital is the only designated centre for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The seven hospitals conducting the Coronavirus tests are Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal,  Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB,) Fever Hospital, Institute of Preventive Medicine and Nizam’s Institute of Medical Science (NIMS.)

Meanwhile, the TRS Government is also working to organise 1,500 isolation beds for COVID-19 patients at Gachibowli Stadium.  The stadium would be ready with all the facilities of isolation wards by the 20th of April.

These arrangements would help the State Medical department to tackle more patients in a day.

As on the 17th of April, Telangana reported a total of 700 positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus.
