Hyderabad: Telangana state government started exercise to supply gas cylinders at a subsidized price of Rs. 500. The civil supplies department of Telangana government did elaborate exercises on distribution subsidized cylinders and prepared two proposals. The government estimated that the scheme will add a minimum burden of Rs.2225 crores to maximum burden of Rs.4450 crores on the government.

The Congress party in its manifesto promised to supply gas cylinders at a subsidized price of Rs.500 within 100 days of coming into power. As promised CM Revanth Reddy directed authorities to take up exercise to start subsidized gas cylinder supply soon.

Officials said that 1.2 crore gas connections are active in the state out of which 44% people are refilling it every month. Around 52.08 lakh gas cylinders are getting refilled every month. A total of 89.99 lakh people in the state have ration cards. 

Authorities have proposed to provide subsidized gas for all ration card holders immediately in the first proposal. In the second proposal authorities suggested taking up a survey and identifying the beneficiaries. The proposals were placed before civil supplies minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.
