The Telangana Government run Gandhi Hospital, on the 11th of May, conducted the first clinical trial of plasma therapy for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 positive patients.

The trial was conducted under the supervision of health officials from Gandhi Hospital after collecting blood from two COVID-19 discharged patients.  Recently, Gandhi Hospital got approval from the Central Government for conducting plasma therapy for the cure of the COVID-19 infection.

The hospital also gave appreciation certificates to the patients for donating their blood. Dr. Raja Rao, the Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital said clinical trials will be a continuous process and would be followed under strict guidelines issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

In Telangana, Gandhi Hospital and ESIC Super Specialty Hospital are selected for conducting the clinical trials of plasma therapy on COVID-19 patients.

In India, the ICMR selected 28 hospitals to conduct plasma therapy.

Meanwhile, Telangana reported 1,275 cases of the Novel Coronavirus, out of which, 444 are active cases, 801 are discharged/ cured and 30 deceased cases.
