The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government approved to set up 475 additional Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) and 194 model schools in the State.

On the 30th of September, Ms. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Education Minister of Telangana confirmed the same. She said, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government is planning to establish additional 457 KGBV and 194 model schools.

The proposal regarding the additional school was taken during the ongoing Telangana Monsoon Assembly session. The discussion related to this was held during the question/answer session of the Assembly session, which started from the 24th of September.

Ms. Sabitha Indra Reddy said, “We are constantly assessing and providing infrastructure in KGBV and the model schools also have adequate infrastructure.”

The decision to upgrade classes at KGBV to intermediate was also discussed during the session. However, a final call regarding the upgrade of classes till 12th is yet to be taken by the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government.

According to sources, as of now 1,10,000 girls are studying in the Government run KGBV schools in Telangana.

The additional 475 KGBV schools would be helpful to increase the number of girls, students and control the rates of dropouts. It is also established to provide education to families who cannot afford their kin’s, especially girl’s education.

Currently there are 475 KGBV schools running by the TRS Government, of which only 172 schools are upgraded to higher secondary education.
