The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government, on the 23rd of April, issued a notice to all the landlords in the State to not charge rents for 3 months due to the pandemic situation.

The Telangana Government, on the 23rd of April, issued an official notice directing landlords and homeowners to not harass for rents for the months of March, April and May.

The Government Order read, “.Hereby direct the property owners in the State of Telangana to defer collecting rentals from tenants, wherever the property (permanent, semi-permanent and temporary) isrented for residential purposes, for a period of 3 months w.e.f. March 2020, without interest for the said rented premises and further, to collect this amount in instalments subsequently after three months.”

K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister  of Telangana,  after receiving several complaints against landlords, directed municipality officials to take the necessary steps for the same.  The decision was taken in the wake of the economic crisis due to nation wide lockdown.  The nation wide lockdown started on the 24th of March and is proposed to end on the 3rd of May.

The State Government warned and asked everyone to not violate the government’s directives under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The implemented orders would be supervised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) under the Chairmanship of the District Collector with the team of local authorities, Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other Municipal Commissioners.

The issued orders would be applicable on ones who rented their homes to people on a temporary, permanent and semi-permanent structures.
