The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government conducted a meeting to resolve the issues of podu lands in Telangana.

On the 5th of November, Mr. Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Telangana held a meeting with the district collectors and district forest officers (DFOs.)  During the meeting, the problems surrounding regularisation of podu lands in agency areas of different districts across the State were discussed.  It is to be noted, many tribals claimed that many forest officials and senior authorities have taken their lands in the name of forest conservation.  These tribals/adivasis reside in forests, away from suburban and urban life.

The video conference headed by Mr. Somesh Kumar discussed the issues and solution to the ongoing Podu land issues between the Government and the Tribals.  During the video conferencing, the constitution of forest rights committees at the village/habitation level, awareness campaigns  to educate the beneficiaries and the government’s initiative to end the trespass and other matters related to the issue were discussed.

In addition, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar directed the officials concerned to constitute forest rights committees comprising panchayat secretaries, elected representatives and others as members.  The panels should be set up habitation wise and committees at mandal, division, district and state levels to monitor the implementation of the assurance given by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.  Recently, the Telangana Chief Minister said, the TRS Government would resolve the podu land issues and would work as per the agreements from the podu cultivators.  The Government also said there would be no further encroachment into forest lands.

With this, the State Government also announced it would receive applications regarding the land regulation from the eligible beneficiaries from the 8th of November.
