The Jagtial police foiled a robbery of an ATM in Korutla town, Jagtial, on the 15th of January, Sunday.  Although the incident occurred on Sunday, it came to light on the next day, the 16th of January, Monday.

According to sources, the Jagtial Police foiled the attempt of a gang, who allegedly looted Rs. 19 lakh from the ATM in the Korutla region.  Getting into the details, a gang of unidentified robbers entered the State Bank of India ATM located at Thandriyal road in Korutla town and managed to break into the ATM with the help of gas cutters.  They took out five boxes of cash, worth Rs. 19 lakh.

However, the attempt triggered the alarm alerting the bank staff, who immediately dialed 100 and called the police.  Korutla Sub Inspector (SI) Satish  alerted a Blue Colt patrol team near Ilapur including head constable Medi Rajaiah, constable Gattu Srinivas and driver Madhu.  They foiled the attempt and saved the ATM money, but failed to arrest the robbers who escaped the spot after they saw the police vehicle.

Madhu, driving the police vehicle, tried to stop them by crashing into the escapees’ vehicle from the side, throwing a robber out of the vehicle. Though two constables chased the man, he managed to get back into the car that had moved away from the police vehicle by then.

As per the police, a sum of Rs 19,00,200 that was stolen was recovered.  In addition, the Superintendent of Police Ch Sindhu Sharma commended the head constable Rajaiah, constable Srinivas and driver Madhu.
