Days after the reopening of schools in Telangana, as many as 15 students from Rajanna Sircilla district, tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Samples of approximately 62 students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Konaraopet were tested, of which 15 were positive. The aforementioned information was confirmed by the Mandal medical and Health Official Mohan Krishna. He said the Novel Coronavirus tests were conducted on students from standard 6th,7th,8th and 9th.

All the students who were COVID-19 tested positive were shifted to isolation rooms in the school itself.

Besides, in Jagtial also, 17 girl students and five teachers at Gurukul Girls’ School tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus. All were shifted to isolation rooms in the hostel of the district.

Concerned over the increasing number of students being COVID-19 infected, the Telangana Government is mulling to close the schools. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, said, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would review the COVID-19 situation and would take a decision soon.

Mr. Rao said, “Whether to continue accommodating them or what to do, in another two three days, I will also give a statement in the Assembly if possible. We cannot let our children suffer. So, we have to follow some policy.” He further added, “We are concerned as it is (a large number of COVID-19 cases) being reported in schools here and there. It is a matter of concern for us when it occurs in hostels as they all are children and staying together.”

The details regarding the review meeting and decision is yet to be known.

Meanwhile, Telangana’s COVID-19 cases surged 3 lakh mark on the 19th of March.
