Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the National President of the Telugu Desam party (TDP) wrote a letter to the State Election Commission (SEC) and the Director General of Police (DGP.)

On the 9th of November, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu wrote the letter regarding the arrest of TDP leaders.  He expressed outrage over the arrests of former minister Mr. Amarnath Reddy and TDP senior leader Mr. Pulivarthi Nani, by the Andhra Pradesh Police.

The TDP President alleged the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) was behind the arrest of two TDP leaders.  Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said the two arrested leaders were not involved in any kind of violence or protest.  They were arrested from Kuppam hotel, where they were having lunch.  He also alleged the YSRCP conspired against the TDP so they withdraw the nomination filed to contest the Kuppam Municipality election.  He also claimed  that the ruling YSRCP Government has been abusing its power and detaining important leaders in order to win the election in Kuppam.

The TDP Chief addressed the media and lashed out at the State Election Commissioner Ms. Neelam Sawhney, for being biased.  He said, “The SEC and the election machinery failed miserably.  TDP candidates were threatened, intimidated and their nominations were torn apart in many places.”   He also asked Ms. Nilam Sawhney to resign if she cannot conduct fair and unbiased polls.

In his letter, Mr. Naidu said, “There has been an undue delay in releasing the final list of candidates.  This is an attempt to remove TDP candidates through forged signatures, foul play and forced withdrawals.’’ He also urged the SEC to put the elections in abeyance wherever the final list of contesting candidates was not displayed in time.

The comments and criticism of Mr. Nara Chandrababu Naidu came at a time when the State is set to conduct the Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) Kuppam and Darsi municipalities election.

The election for NMC and 12 other municipalities are scheduled to be held on the 15th of November.
