On the 26th of June, Sunitha Rao, a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) was officially announced to be Women President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC.) 

K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC,) issued an official notification regarding the same on the evening of the 25th of June, Friday. The decision to appoint Ms. Sunitha Rao was taken by Sonia Gandhi, the Interim President of the Indian National Congress. 

According to sources, the National Women President of the INC Sushmita Dev interviewed candidates for the post. After several rounds of interviews, four candidates were shortlisted. After the telephonic interview, Ms. Sushmita Dev favoured Sunitha Rao.

However, the final decision was taken by Sonia Gandhi, the INC Interim President.

With this, Sunitha Rao Mediraj replaces Nerella Sharda, the former Women Wing President of the TPCC.
