Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) addressed a grand public meeting on the 6th of May, Friday in Telangana’s Warangal district.

During the public meeting, Mr. Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Working President Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, and Chief Minister of Telangana, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao.  Mr. Rahul Gandhi described the next Assembly elections as a ‘direct battle’ between the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) and the TRS.

During the public rally, the INC leader said, “We will topple the TRS in elections and it will be a direct battle between the Congress and TRS.  We will not forgive the person who has ruined the dream of Telangana, and stolen lakhs and crores from the youth and poor.”   He further added that the TPCC would be distributing tickets for the polls based on merit.

Mr. Rahul Gandhi said, “If you are not with the poor, farmers, you will not get the ticket.  Congress ticket in polls will be given on a merit basis, regardless of how powerful you are, or how big you are.  If you are not with the poor, farmers, you will not get the Congress ticket.”

Mr. Rahul Gandhi also questioned the situation of farmers in the State and widows, who lost husbands.  He said, amid poor policies of the TRS many farmers committed suicide and women lost husbands, who would be responsible for these deaths.

Notably, the two-day visit of Mr. Rahul Gandhi to Telangana created a political ruckus with constant criticism from the TRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)  The TRS leaders called Mr. Rahul Gandhi a tourist and said, only KCR would stay in Telangana.  Ms. K. Kavitha, the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of the TRS said, Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s Telangana visit is not for the welfare of the State’s people, but a political agenda.

The Telugu state of Telangana is set to conduct the Assembly elections in 2023, therefore political parties are geared up to strengthen their parties in the regions of Telangana.
