In Telangana, the Preventive Detention Act (PD Act) Advisory Board rejected the representation of Ms. T. Usha Bai, the wife of suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Mr. T. Raja Singh.

It is to be noted, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Goshmahal Assembly constituency was arrested and charged under PD Act (detention without trial in order to prevent a person from committing a crime) for his controversial remark against Prophet Muhammad, founder of the Islamic Religion.  It is to be noted, on the 22nd of August, MLA Raja Singh shared a 10 minute video, in response to a standup comedy show held by Munawar Faruqi, in Hyderabad.  Acting upon the remark, on the 23rd of August, the Hyderabad Police arrested the BJP MLA, following which the BJP also suspended Mr. Raja Singh.

However, on the 9th of September, Ms. T. Usha Bai, the wife of Mr. Raja Singh made a representation, seeking a repeal of PD Act, invoked on her husband.  In regard to this, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government formed an advisory board, the Preventive Detention Advisory Board.   However, the advisory board maintained that there are no valid grounds and reasons made out therein to set aside/revoke the detention orders.  After rejection, Ms. Usha Bai gave a statement, which read, “The rejection order is not final and it will be challenged before the High Court.”

Moreover, a writ petition is also pending before the Telangana High Court, challenging the PD Act against Mr. T. Raja Singh.

Furthermore, Mr. T. Raja Singh is currently lodged in the Cherlapally jail, Telangana.
