Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis-e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), and priest Yati Narsinghanand have been registered under a First Information Report (FIR.)

On the 9th of June, the Delhi Police said Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi and Mr. Yati Narsinghanand are named in FIRs registered by the Delhi Police Information Technology Cell for allegedly spreading hate speeches and hurting religious sentiments.

The two leaders allegedly shared hate remarks on their social media platforms, which disturned communal harmony and hurt the religious sentiments of many people.  Besides Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi and Mr. Yati Narsinghanand, Mr. Naveen Jindal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Head of Delhi, and Ms. Nupur Sharma, the former Spokesperson of the BJP has also been named in the FIR. 

According to sources, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (cyber cell) Mr. K.P.S. Malhotra said that the police registered a case against social media users for spreading hate, inciting groups, and disturbing the public tranquillity on Wednesday.  He added, “The FIR is against multiple individuals from different religions.  We are investigating the role of various social media entities in promoting false and wrong information to create unrest.” 

DCP K.P.S. Malhotra said, “Names of Owaisi and Yati have also been mentioned in this FIR.  They have been booked under (the) IPC section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot,) 295 (defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 505 (statement conducing public mischief.)” 

Furthermore, the police also issued a notice on Twitter stating they have registered two FIRs and are identifying anonymous Twitter users, who are spreading hate related to the outrageous issue of remarks against Mohammed, the Prophet of Islam.

The investigation into the matter is underway.
