On the 15th of April, Friday, nearly 150 trucks loaded with paddy from Andhra Pradesh were stopped at check posts from entering the Telugu State of Telangana.  The trucks were denied entry, despite having valid documents by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government.

According to sources, a total of 51 check posts, including the inter state border at Mattapalli and Vadapalli villages are on the radar to stop paddy trucks from Andhra Pradesh.  The reason behind the move is the recent announcement of the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government.  It is to be noted that after the Central Government declined to procure paddy from the Telangana farmers, the TRS Government announced to procure the same at the Minimum Support Price (MSP.)  However, the State Government officially made it clear that paddy being brought from Andhra Pradesh would not be procured in Telangana.

Meanwhile, traders in Andhra Pradesh purchased paddy from local farmers at a lesser rate and were sending it to Telangana mills to gain the MSP benefits.  It is to be noted, the farmers in Andhra Pradesh were selling paddy even at a lesser price because the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government was delaying in making payment and they cannot afford to wait that long, therefore sold the paddy to traders.

However, with the recent announcement of he Telangana Government, denying entry to Telangana with paddy, Andhra Pradesh traders are expected to face consequences and losses.
