According to the weather experts, a deep depression has been reported over the Bay of Bengal.  This depression is said to intensify as a cyclonic strong named ‘Gulab‘ (the flower Rose in Hindi.)  The name Gulab is from the list of cyclone names that is maintained by the World Meteorological Organisation/United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (WMO/ESCAP) Panel on Tropical Cyclones (PTC).

The cyclone made landfall in Odisha on the evening of the 26th of September.  Wind crossing the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coastlines by Sunday evening is said to bring heavy rainfall in Telangana for the next three days.

In regard to this, Mr. Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, issued an alert and held a video conference with the district collectors and officials.  During the meeting, Mr. Somesh Kumar directed the district collectors to set up control rooms in their respective districts in view of the cyclone Gulab. In addition, the State CS asked the Hyderabad police to be on alert and coordinate with the other departments on the future course of action and rescue operations.  In low lying regions, the State Government and concerned officials have started rescue works and relief measures.

In addition, the services of the National Defence Rescue Force (NDRF) and State Defence Rescue Force (SDRF) teams have also been alerted for the necessary situations if needed.

The Telangana Police and Telangana Government urged the public not to venture out unnecessarily.  Fishermen and people residing in low lying regions were strictly prohibited near the coasts.
