The National Green Tribunal (NGT,) ordered the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government to stop the works of Palamuru Rangareddy Irrigation Project.

On the 29th of October, Friday, the NGT directed the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government to halt the work until further orders. The decision of the NGT came after the Andhra Pradesh Government wrote to the Central agency regarding the same.

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the Government of A.P., alleged that the TRS Government is going to use drinking water as irrigation water with the Palamuru Rangareddy Irrigation Project. The Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy Government said the construction of the project would be injustice to the people of A.P., who rely on the water for drinking purposes.

In addition, the Andhra Pradesh farmers also filed a petition against the project works on the 15th of July. The petition filed with the NGT was examined by a special committee formed to examine the allegations and take a decision.

Now, with the recommendations of the special committee and the NGT decision, the work needs to be stopped, until environmental clearance is given.
