The capital city of Telangana, Hyderabad is termed as one of the most expensive cities for ‘living standards’ in India. 

On the 7th of June, Wednesday, Mercer’s 2023 ‘Cost of Living’ survey report was released, which mentioned cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other cities to be on top.  

The survey was conducted for 227 cities in five continents, on the basis of approximately 200 factors, including transport, food, accommodation, clothing, home appliances, shopping and other details needed for a living.  

While Mumbai stood at the top position 147th, in Indian states, Hyderabad stood at 202nd position, becoming the fourth city to be termed as ‘most expensive’ in India.  After Mumbai, other cities which were termed as ‘expensive in terms of living’ were New Delhi (169,) Chennai (184) and Bengaluru (189.)

However, in terms of accommodation, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune are 50% less in prices compared to residences in Mumbai and Delhi.

Meanwhile, in international terms, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Zurich are in the top three positions whereas Havana, Karachi, and Islamabad in Pakistan were reported as the most expensive cities.
