Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, on the 15th of April, Saturday, is scheduled to launch the leachate treatment plant.
The plant is estimated to have been built at a cost of Rs. 250 crores to overcome the water pollution problem in Jawahar Nagar and surrounding areas. In addition, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation constructed the plant with the help of the State Government, to treat the liquid waste at Jawahar Nagar and succeeded.
According to the GHMC, the residents of Jawaharnagar and its vicinity have been facing problems for decades of unscientific dumping of waste at the yard. To solve the issue, the GHMC made this plant and said, “A mobile RO system of 2,000 KLD capacity was started in 2017 as a temporary measure. The capacity of the RO system was subsequently increased to 4,000 KL.”
The GHMC completed capping of the dump yard in 2020 to address the issue of flood water flowing from top of the dump yard. In addition, to purify polluted water, it took up a programme in 2020 costing nearly Rs. 250 crore to treat waste from Jawahar Nagar and to restore nearby ponds and other water bodies in the surroundings.
The steps were taken up by the State Government and the GHMC to ensure Jawahar Nagar is completely pollution free and has a clear environment for its residents.
