Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology (IT) and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, responded to the recent merger comment of Karnataka MLA.

Recently, Dr. Shivraj Patil, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka, said to merge Raichur district of Karnataka with Telangana. In a video, Mr. Shivraj Patil was seen saying, the Telangana Government should include Raichur district with Telangana. He said, if merged with Telangana, the district would grow and issues faced by the farmers in the region would reduce under the leadership of Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana.

Responding to the same, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Minister said, “Validation for Telangana coming from across the border.”

Mr. K.T. Rama Rao took to Twitter and said, “Validation for Telangana coming from across the border; Karnataka BJP MLA says Raichur should be merged in Telangana & the audience welcomes the suggestion with applause.”

The TRS Minister said such a suggestion coming from a BJP leader is like an appreciation for Telangana. Mr. Rama Rao said,”Statement from a BJP MLA is a testament to the development taking place in the state of Telangana under the rule of chief minister KCR.”

This is not the first time, Telangana Government was approached to merge villages and districts of other states bordering Telangana.

In 2019, leaders of regions like Nanded, Nalgaon, Bhokar, Degloor, Kinwat and Hathgaon from Maharashtra met the Telangana Chief Minister, urging the merger with Telangana.  The major reason behind such merger is to avail benefits of welfare schemes of the Telangana Government and development of the merged regions.

In 2018 also, approximately 40 villages from Dharmabad in Nanded district passed a resolution seeking merger with Telangana.
