Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana welcomed the decision of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Mr. N.V. Ramana over the journalist’s house issue.

On the 25th of August, Thursday, CJI N.V. Ramana allowed the construction and acquisition of house sites for journalists, as promised by the Telangana Government.

Hours after the judgement, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao took to his Twitter and posted, “I would like to extend my gratitude to the Hon’ble Supreme Court & CJI Garu for clearing the long-standing demand of Telangana journalist society on house site allotments.  This will help Telangana Govt deliver on our promise to our Journalist friends.”

Meanwhile, the verdict of the CJI Mr. N.V. Ramana, who is scheduled to retire on the 26th of August, came as a relief for journalists in Hyderabad, who were demanding housing sites.

The Telangana Journalist society was demanding house sites and allowance house construction for a long time, which was pending before the Apex Court for approval.

The first such announcement by the K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government was made in 2016.  After the bifurcation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, the TRS formed the Telangana Government and promised houses sites for journalists in the State.  However, the promise was not fulfilled due to approval reasons, as the matter was in the Supreme Court.

Recently in 2022 March also, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana assured to resolve the journalist housing matter soon.  In a media briefing, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao said, “As the matter was in the Supreme Court, I will take initiative soon to resolve the issue. Since MLA and former deputy speaker, Padma Devender Reddy was facing pressure on lands and housing by the MLAs and journalists, I will take up the matter personally and will find a solution soon.”

Now that the matter is resolved, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is likely to speed up the work, providing promised flats and housing sites to the journalists of Telangana.
