K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, on the 26th of August, assured 85,000 double bedroom houses to beneficiaries in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limit. 

During a review meeting held on the 26th of August, KTR said the housing project of 85,000 houses would be done and beneficiaries would get housed by the end of 2020. Out of the total 85,000 houses, 75,000 houses are being constructed under the Dignity Housing Programme and remaining 10,000 houses are under the JNNURM scheme.

Mr. Rao said no other metro city in India was constructing so many housing units as done in Hyderabad.

Under the Dignity Housing Programme, the State Government allocated Rs. 9,700 crore for construction of one lakh 2 BHK houses.

Of the target 1 lakh housing units, 4,000 each were being constructed in the 24 Assembly constituencies of Hyderabad or the GHMC unit.

Mr. Rao also directed the concerned officials to finalise the list of beneficiaries so they could get houses by December 2020.

Instructions were also issued to the officials to have in place the required infrastructure including water supply, electricity and other amenities and also to make arrangements for handing over the houses to beneficiaries with all amenities.

The guidelines for identifying the beneficiaries would be discussed with the Housing Department and be finalised in a couple of days.

The meeting to review the housing programme status was attended by Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, MA&UD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, GHMC Commissioner D.S.Lokesh Kumar, EVDM Director Viswajit Kampati and District Collectors.
