KCR Government Assures Support To HMRL To Run Smoothly

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 25th of June, held a meeting with the L&T officials.  

The meeting was held after Larsen & Toubro (L&T) representatives requested support from the State Government to endure losses faced by the Hyderabad Metro Rail due to the imposed lockdown. L&T Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) S.N. Subramaniam and other officials attended the meeting held by KCR. The meeting was also attended by several government officials and the Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL) MD N.V.S. Reddy.

K. Chandrashekar Rao responded to the request positively and assured to help overcome its losses in running the Hyderabad Metro Rail.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Chief Minister KCR instructed the officials concerned to examine how the Government could extend support to the L&T as per possibilities.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President KCR instructed the officials in the CMO to review the matter and submit a report soon.

The Telangana CM said, the Hyderabad Metro Rail offered a safe and protective transportation system during the pandemic, hence the State Government assured to extend support to run the Metro Rail more efficiently.

It is to be noted, the 73 km elevated HMRL is one of the biggest and efficient metro projects in the world in the public private partnership (PPP) model.

The metro was built by L&T HMRL in partnership at a cost of Rs. 20,000 crores. The metro which had a footfall of nearly 4 lakh people in a day, started incurring losses due to the imposed lockdown.

The HMRL was said to suffer losses of Rs. 300 crores in the five and a half months duration of lockdown in 2020.

In addition, another major hit to the Metro Rail operator was in May and June in 2021.
