Amid heavy rainfall in Telangana on the 8th of July and early hours of the 9th of July, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert.

As per the IMD, the red alert has been issued for some isolated districts of Telangana, for the next two days, the 9th and the 10th of July.  It is to be noted, the Telugu state witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall, resulting in waterlogged areas, falling of trees and blocked roads.  In addition, two women were also killed in a wall collapse in Nalgonda town.  Other problems faced by heavy rainfall is affected coal production in a few open cast mines of Singareni Collieries in Khammam district, people facing vehicular traffic, water logged areas, electricity disturbance and other issues.  Furthermore, people residing in the low lying isolated areas have been asked to stay cautious, as many wall and weak building are collapsing due to the rainfall.

As per the IMD alert, very heavy to extreme heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sirsilla and Siddipet districts.  The Hyderabad Weather Department also issued an alert and forecasted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagityal, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.

Meanwhile, to control the heavy flow of rainwater, the Telangana Government opened the gates of the Komaram Bheem project in the Asifabad district to let the water flow downstream.  In addition, Saraswati and Parvati barrages under the Kaleshwaram project were also receiving inflows, due to which the authorities opened the gates to release the water.
