The Hyderabad Weather Department and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a rain alert in Telangana. On the 26th of September, the IMD issued Red Alert for Northern Telangana region and Yellow Alert for the southern region of the Telugu State.

According to the weather experts, a deep depression has been reported from the Bay of Bengal. Depression is said to intensify as a cyclonic strong named ‘Gulab.’

The cyclone made landfall in Odisha on the evening of the 26th of September. Wind crossing the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coastlines by Sunday evening is said to bring heavy rainfall in Telangana for the next three days.

In regard to this, Mr. Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, issued an alert and held a video conferencing with the district collectors and officials. During the meeting, Mr. Somesh Kumar directed the district collectors to set up control rooms in the respective collectors in view of the Gulab cyclone. In addition, the State CS asked the Hyderabad police to be on alert and coordinate with the other departments for the future course of action and rescue operations. In low lying regions, the State Government and concerned officials have started rescue works and relief measures.

In addition, the services of the National Defence Rescue Force (NDRF) and State Defence Rescue Force (SDRF) teams have also been alerted for the necessary situations if needed.
