The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced an alert of heavy rains and thunderstorms in Telangana.

On the 14th of September, the IMD predicted heavy rainfall in the State 17th of September.

According to the IMD meteorologists, the rainfall and thunderstorm are expected due to the formation of a low pressure zone coming over the Bay of Bengal.

Speaking about the zones, the IMD said, isolated places of Telangana would receive heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms.

Heavy to very heavy rain, and even extremely heavy rain, is also expected at isolated places of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts till the 17th of September.

While drizzle and moist weather is expected in Adilabad, Komram Bheem, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal (Urban and Rural), Mahbubabad, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhongir, Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Nagarkurnool districts.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) said this year (2020,) Telangana witnessed good amount of rainfall. Of all the districts only Nirmal district received deficient rainfall this monsoon.

In addition, 11 districts received excess of heavy rainfall and 12 others received excess rainfall and 9 got normal rainfall.

In 2020, Telangana received 881.20 mm of rainfall during monsoon season, from the 1st of June till date.

However, in 2019 the State received 635.9 mm rainfall from June.
