Hyderabad, Telangana’s Capital City has won the overall ‘World Green City Award 2022’ and ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth.’

On the 14th of October, Friday, the award was announced at the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH) World Green City Awards 2022 held in Jeju, South Korea.  Notably, Hyderabad is the only Indian city to make to the big cut and beat cities like Paris, Mexico City, Montreal, Fortaleza and Bogota to be adjudged the grand winner.

Furthermore, Hyderabad also became the only Indian city to win laurels on the International platform and secure a big win across six categories.  Not only Hyderabad secured win in the World Green City category, but in the ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’ category too.

The big win is said to be the hard work of the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government, for making the city a green environment for people.

Taking pride into the victory of Hyderabad as the World Green City, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, tweeted, “Many congratulations & very proud of your work @HMDA_Gov @md_hgcl 👏.”

In addition, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, said, “These international awards are proof that the state government is strongly implementing the Haritaharam and urban development programs… giving green fruits to the country.  It is a matter of pride that Hyderabad is the only city from India to be selected for these international awards.”

The TRS Government also issued a press release which read, “In the category ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’, the greening of the Outer Ring Road was submitted as Hyderabad’s entry.  The category focuses on creating systems and solutions that allow all city residents to overcome economic distress and thrive and the ORR greenery called ‘Green Necklace to the State of Telangana’ was adjudged the best in this category.”

Moreover, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao also asked the public representatives and officials to continue the hard work towards the formation of a green Telangana.
