The Capital City of Telangana, Hyderabad would see AC double decker buses by January 2023.

On the 7th of November, Monday, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) confirmed that they are in the process of acquiring six electric AC double decker buses.

Likely to start operations in January 2023, the AC double decker buses would ply in the city for 12 to 14 hours every day.  It is likely that these buses will ply on routes like Patancheru-Koti, Jeedimetla-CBS, Afzalgunj-Mehdipatnam and others in the City.

The development authority is going to procure the double decker AC buses for two years, with a warranty of covering two lakh kilometres.  Apart from this, there would also be an annual maintenance contract (AMC) for the next five years with the company which would provide the double decker buses to the HMDA.

The process to start operating AC double decker buses began after Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, tweeted about the double decker buses.

The tweet Mr. K.T. Rama Rao shared last year read, “I have many fond memories of riding the double decker bus on my way to St. George’s Grammar School at Abids.  Not sure why they were taken off the roads. Any chance we can bring them back Transport Minister @puvvada_ajay Garu?”

Acting upon it after a year, the Transport Ministry of Telangana and HMDA made it possible and announced that the City is likely to see double decker buses from January 2023.

However, an official announcement regarding the operations of the double decker buses is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
