The Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport would soon get a new tunnel runway.  The main objective behind the move is to lessen the traffic and increase the passenger handling capacity to approximately 3.4 crores.

As per the government sources, who wished to be anonymous, the new tunnel would be built below the runway, saving time for the passengers, food caterers, and vehicles and saving the fuel consumption of the vehicles passing by.

According to sources, the new tunnel would be 264 meters, and 368-meter of ramps, with fire-resistant technology, CCTV coverage, and stormwater drainage.   The operation of the new tunnel would save at least 2 to 3 minutes for the passengers traveling this way.

Furthermore, the new tunnel under the Civil Aviation Ministry of Telangana would ensure safe passenger movement and safe operations.

It is to be noted, that the new tunnel at the Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi Internation Airport would be built by Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao (GMR) services, which would be one of its kind in the history of Indian Airports.
