After announcing closure of wine shops in Hyderabad, the City police announced restrictions on Holi celebrations too.

On the 27th of March, the Hyderabad police denied permission for Holi celebrations. The decision was taken in the wake of the rising cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

V.C. Sajjanar, the Commissioner of Police (CP) of Cyberabad Police issued the orders regarding the same. The Hyderabad police warned of strict action against those violating rules. The issued notice has been circulated to the gated communities in the City, hostel owners and event organizers. They also made it clear to mandate the usage of masks and maintain social distancing.

In addition, throwing colours at the passersby on the road and vehicles are also prohibited this year. Further, restrictions were also imposed on roaming of two wheelers in groups.

The imposed restrictions are across Telangana, but strictly in Hyderabad, as the City recorded the highest number of single day cases. In the past 24 hours, out of the total cases, 150 cases were from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

Holi is celebrated on the 28th and 29th of March in India.
