Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL,) in collaboration with MakeMyTrip, on the 23rd of December, launched the facility of e tickets for Metro rides.

N.V.S. Reddy, the Managing Director of HMRL, launched the QR based mobile ticketing facility at the HITEC City Metro Station.  He said, “With the launch of the QR code based ticketing on Hyderabad Metro by MakeMyTrip, we have taken a step towards creating urban mobility solutions that are future ready.”

The e ticket facility was launched in collaboration with MakeMyTrip.  Rajesh Magow, the co founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MakeMyTrip, said, “As India’s travel app, MakeMyTrip is committed to make travel more convenient while constantly raising the bar for customer experience. By leaning in on technology to offer urban mobility solutions, we are confident of setting new benchmarks in the intra city travel space as well (sic.)”

As per the new QR based mobile ticketing facility, commuters can buy Metro tickets online and get into the Metro trains by scanning the QR code at the station.  Another advantage of the QR code facility is riders can book up to 6 tickets at a time and share the QR code with the other passengers via WhatsApp.

The idea to launch the facility was to make the travel experience better for commuters and to avoid the rush at ticket counters during peak hours.  Commuters can book the e tickets using the MakeMyTrip website or app.

According to sources, as many as 4 lakh passengers travel by the Hyderabad Metro Rail daily.
