The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections to two municipal corporations and five municipalities began in Telangana. The elections started at 7:00 A.M., on the 30th of April and would continue till 6:00 P.M.

The Polling is underway at the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, Khammam municipal corporations, Siddipet, Achampet, Nakrekal, Jadcherla and Kothur. The State Election Commission (SEC) of Telangana made all the necessary arrangements regarding the elections. The SEC officials also ensured that all the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 protocols like wearing face masks, Sanitizers and social distancing are being followed at the polling stations.

According to sources, a total of 11,34,032 voters are eligible to perform their voting rights. Of the total, 5,57,759 are males and 5,76,037 are females.

In regard to maintaining social distancing, the Telangana SEC arranged 1,539 polling stations for municipal and corporation elections. As many as 1,307 candidates are in fray for 248 wards in two corporations and five municipalities. Political parties like the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Indian National Congress (INC) are contesting the election.

The result of the GWMC polls would be released on the 3rd of May.
