The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to double the amount to be paid for garbage collection in the GHMC limits.
The residents of the GHMC limit have to pay double of the current charges to the waste collector for collection and transportation of garbage from households through Swachh Auto Tippers (SATs), tricycles and waste collectors. As of now, every household in the GHMC limit pays a monthly amount of Rs. 50, whereas people in slum areas of the GHMC limit pay an amount of Rs. 25. However, with the new charges, household in the residential colonies would pay Rs. 100, whereas the pay to collect garbage in slums would increase to Rs. 50, per month.
The proposal to increase the monthly pay would be placed before the GHMC Standing Committee, which would take a final call regarding the same.
The GHMC Standing Committee is scheduled to hold a meeting on the 17th of May, and would make a decision soon.
Meanwhile, as of now, the households in the GHMC Limit would pay the usual Rs. 50 for garbage collection, whereas in slums the amount is Rs. 25.
