Parthasarathy, the Election Commission Officer (ECO) of Telangana, on the 7th of October spoke about the Telangana Municipal elections.

Mr. Parthasarthy was on a visit to Tirumala and offered prayers to Lord Venkateshwar at the Temple.

He received a grand welcome by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) officials and then he also received Srivari Tirtha Prasadams of the Ranganaikula Temple, Srikakulam.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Parthasarathy said, election notification for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections would be released soon. He also said, the elections would be held in either November or December 2020.

The GHMC tenure is due to end in the first week of February 2021.

In the wake of the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, the Election Commission of India (ECI) would go for ballot paper for voting.

The Electronic Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) and Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL) have informed that to manufacture VVPATs, (voter-verified paper audit trail,) permission of ECI, Delhi, is required. They wrote to ECI for permission to manufacture VVPATs for TSEC. The reply from ECI is awaited.

A meeting was held by the State EC with the GHMC commissioner Lokesh Kumar, following which they decided to go for ballot paper voting.

In Telangana, the GHMC elections are due in November or December.
