The Dalit Bandhu scheme has now become a major issue between political parties of Telangana. After the recently concluded Huzurabad Assembly by election, the opposition parties in Telangana are demanding the implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme as promised.

It is to be noted, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government promised to implement the Dalit Bandhu scheme in Telangana. Since the scheme was announced during the Huzurabad Assembly by election, the scheme got a lot of attention as well as criticism. Now, after the loss of the TRS in the Huzurabad Assembly by poll, the silence of the TRS regarding the implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme is drawing criticism from the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The opposition parties are questioning, whether Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana wou keep up his promise of implementing the Dalit Bandhu scheme after his party’s defeat in the Huzurabad by poll. They also criticised the TRS for failing the expectations of the Dalits of Telangana.

Meanwhile, a TRS leader commented on the criticism of the BJP and the TPCC and said, the TRS would implement the Dalit Bandhu scheme in the State in the coming days. However, a major reason to take a pause from the Dalit Bandhu scheme is the anger of other castes, who felt left out of the Dalit Bandhu scheme, which only is for the welfare of the Dalits in Telangana.

The leader who wished to be anonymous said, the TRS also planned to allocate Rs. 20,000 crores in the next budget. The TRS leader said, “It will be 100% implemented by KCR. It can’t just happen immediately. But the push back from other communities is going to be an issue.” The leader further added, “But they don’t realise that the TRS government has been helping other communities already since 2014, like giving sheep to the Golla community. They will not acknowledge it, simply because they think the Dalit Bandhi scheme is unjust.”

As of now, the Dalit Bandhu scheme has been implemented only in Huzurabad constituency, Vasalamarri village and four mandals.
