The Commissioner of Police (CP) of Hyderabad Anjani Kumar on the 21st of December, said the crime rate in Hyderabad dropped by 10 % in 2020.

Mr. Kumar said in 2020, nearly 22,641 cases were registered as against 25,187 in the last year.

According to the CP Anjani Kumar, the City recorded a drop in the protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) cases.

Compared to last year, a 35 % reduction was reported in the City.

In addition,there was a 27 % reduction reported in property crimes, 26 % in bodily offences and 19 % in crimes against women.

The facts and figures were based on an international survey. According to the survey, Hyderabad has emerged as number one in India in the installation of CCTV cameras and has ranked 60th position among 500 cities.

Mr. Anjani said, “At present, there are 3,61,000 cameras in Hyderabad, which is more than any city in India that helped in reducing the crime rate and solving the cases.”

He further added, “For the year 2020, 13 persons were announced life imprisonment, one person with 23 years of imprisonment, three persons with 20 years imprisonment, 11 persons with 10 years imprisonment and three years for 26 persons.”

In addition, the City Police also rescued 367 boys and 200 girls under operation Smile and Muskan. The initiative named Muskan was launched by the Telangana Police to trace missing children and to free children involved in bonded labour, micro industries, begging.

With the effective implementation of road safety measures, the city saw a dip in road accidents with 237 persons being killed as against 271 in 2019.
