The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in Telangana, demanded anti cow slaughter law in Telangana.

A BJP National leader and Madhya Pradesh in charge P. Muralidhar Rao, on the 10th of September, said, “We will fight against the State government until it enacts the law.”

The demand came after the Uttar Pradesh Government and the Karnataka Government, passed the anti cow slaughter bill.

Mr. Muralidhar Rao said the BJP would hold an agitation until the law is enacted or implemented by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Party.

Mr. Rao said the Director General of Police (DGP) M. Mahendar Reddy and Hyderabad Commissioner of Police (CP) Anjani Kumar “are under the scanner for being too close to the ruling party (the TRS) and the AIMIM (All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen.)” The two officers were here to safeguard the Constitution.

The BJP ruled states like Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh passed the anti cow slaughter and cattle preservation Bill, 2020. However, the bill is yet to become a law in Karnataka.

Under the law, all kinds of cattle slaughter are banned and offenders would get severe punishments including fines, custodial remand or even imprisonment.

Terming cow slaughter as a cognizable offence, violators can attract three to seven years of imprisonment.

While a penalty between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 5 lakh can be levied for the first offence, second and subsequent offences can attract penalties ranging between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh.
